Admiral Stark interviewed in Star Magazine

Star_Into_Darkness_Special_CoverWith the new Star Trek: Into Darkness movie coming out soon, several magazines are prepping their upcoming issues to celebrate the event.  Star Magazine reached out to the Seventh Fleet and asked if a representative would be willing to be interviewed.  Admiral Carl Stark was asked to represent the Fleet and an interview was set up.  We have been told that the interview will now be published in the March 27th (Wednesday) publication by Star Magazine.  The Star Into Darkness Special will have 200 photos, special interviews and various Star Trek previews.  Star Magazine sent us a copy of the cover to share with everyone as well.  Let us know what you think of the interview.

Location change for the March USS Ticonderoga meeting

2x13b2This is a heads up to everyone.  The Weber County Library had our rooms booked up for the next two months.  So the March monthly meeting of the USS Ticonderoga will be at the home of Captain Stark in Clearfield.  The meeting is still on Wednesday, March 13th and it will be at the same time (7:00pm) and will end about the same time since it is still a school/work night.  Please bring your friends and show-n-tell items.  We are also doing some additional planning for our CONduit room party.

USS Ticonderoga March activity- Star Trek Parody Night

80922_oThis Saturday, March 9th, is the anniversary date of the USS Ticonderoga as a club.  We originally started as the chapter-in-training USS Euphrates on this date in 1996.  Since we all join fan clubs to have fun, we decided to celebrate by watching various Star Trek parodies and blooper reels.  We want to laugh with our friends and Star Trek.  At 6:00pm we will meet at the home of Captain Erica Stark and continue to watch funny videos until we get tired.  Bring your own drinks and some snacks to share.

Seventh Fleet MS Walk team needs your help

A word from Captain Stark: The tumblr_lo0dqeYsAp1qmwevwo1_400Seventh Fleet is putting together a team for the upcoming MS Walk in Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 27th.  It is being assembled by Lt. Commander Russell Boltz from the PCU Essex.  His email with the details is posted below.  If you can help out by volunteering or donating, please do so at the links below.

Friends,

Two friends of mine have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Since then, it has been my mission to get in shape, to live a healthy lifestyle, and to do something about MS now. That is why I am walking in Walk MS 2013http://goo.gl/KRCPB>on April 27th at the Gateway Mall with Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet http://www.seventhfleet.org>.

MS interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms vary from person to person. One person may experience fatigue and numbness, while another may
experience dizziness and have loss of balance. Local Walk MS events are connecting communities to end MS forever. This event raises critical funds to support local programs and cutting-edge research. Your participation puts us closer to realizing our promise to STOP MS in its tracks, RESTORE lost function and END MS forever. Ending MS means no one will receive an MS diagnosis again. Every step counts. Every dollar helps. Every connection matters.

This year, I have pledged to raise at least $250 to move us closer to a world free of MS. Please support my fundraising efforts. Your donation will help the National MS Society provide award-winning programs and services for those affected by MS.

$35 — Could assist self-help groups in supporting people affected by MS in our community.

$65 — Could fund wellness programs, aimed at treating the mind, body and spirit.

$120 — Could help pay for a physical therapy session to manage MS symptoms by enhancing strength and mobility.

$200 — Could help fuel our cause to help influence change by engaging elected officials to make multiple sclerosis a national priority.

$400 — Could help fund a researcher working towards a cure.

Making a donation is easy! Visit my personal page at http://goo.gl/KRCPB and click on the “Donate to Russell!” button. If
you prefer to donate by check, please make your check payable to the “National MS Society” and mail it to me at 333 Roosevelt Ave / Salt Lake City, UT 84115-1519.

I am walking with my team, Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet (www.seventhfleet.org), a local Star Trek Fan Association. We are always open to new walking team members and fan club members. Help us promote MS awareness by participating with us. If you are not able to walk, consider volunteering for a few hours or raising funds as a virtual participant. Visit my team page at http://goo.gl/80FID to learn more.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at pupslace@gmail.com, or contact the National MS Society at nationalmssociety.org or (800) 344-4867, option 2.

*Warmest regards,*
Russell S Boltz

February 2013 USS Ticonderoga meeting is coming up soon

anim_46_bigThis Wednesday, February 13th will be the next USS Ticonderoga monthly meeting.  As per normal we will be holding it at the Weber County Library-Main Branch (25th and Jefferson) starting at 7:00pm.  We will be discussing which laser tag arena that we want to go to (so bring your feedback).  Don’t forget to bring a friend and a Star Trek item for your show-in-tell.  See you there.

Also don’t forget that this Saturday, February 16th is the date of our laser tag event.

How to navigate around the USS Ticonderoga

So do you want to know where some of the various rooms are located on the USS Ticonderoga?  What do you think your quarters may look like (before you added your own touches)?  Ever wondered if there is a Springball court on the ship?  Need information on the Ticonderoga for that fanfic you are working on?  Want to know where the science station is on the bridge?  Well this website is developed to help you find out about the USS Ticonderoga as we’ve set it up in the Star Trek/Seventh Fleet universe.  For answers to most of the questions posted above, you can go directly to https://www.ussticonderoga.org/ship/ and you can not only see a deck by deck break down of the major sections.  You can also find images of some of the rooms that would typically be on board the USS Ticonderoga.

Of course all of this interior arranging leads to another question.  Where do you want your quarters to be on the Ticonderoga?  What deck and what room number?  What else should we have on the ship?  Post your suggestions in the comments section and let’s see what we can put together.

Tentative USS Ticonderoga events for 2013

As promised, here is the tentative schedule for the upcoming year’s activities:

January 26 – Admiral’s banquet
February 16 – Laser tag
March 9 – Star Trek parody viewing party
April 27 – Adopt-a-highway
May 17 & 24-26 – Movie premiere & Conduit (room party)
June 15 – Game day and picnic @ Riverdale Splash Pad
July 4- BYOM BBQ
August 31 – Fleet Games
September 21 – Adopt-a-highway
October 31 – Halloween party
November 2 – AdVOT/Merit Sheet night
December 31 – New Year’s Eve party

Further details will be announced as we get them set. =)

Remember that most of these are not set in stone, so can be easily changed if something cool pops up. In the next couple of months, Weber county will be publishing it’s RAMP activities, so we may take advantage of one – or more – of the free activities offered over the summer.

It was also decided at tonight’s meeting that this year, our mugato will be emerald green, so keep that in mind for the December meeting.

Happy New Year 2013

Welcome everyone to the year 2013 (Stardate: 66010.1 in the Seventh Fleet system).  The year of 2012 held many good memories for us.  Star Trek: The Next Generation turned 25 years old (and we are celebrating with the TNG Re-Watch Party that is still going on).  We had the re-integration with Utah’s longest running Science Fiction convention, CONduit with special guest Tim Russ (Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager).  At this convention the USS Ticonderoga won the Room Party Contest.  The release of Star Trek: TNG blu-rays had two theater specials.  The Seventh Fleet held a wonderful Admiral’s Banquet and Seventh Fleet games where we had fun with our Star Trek family.   We started role-playing nights for Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons.  And Star Trek returned locally to our airwaves on KTVX 4.2.

So what are we looking forward to in 2013?  This will be the 15th Anniversary of the founding of the Seventh Fleet.  We had to pull together after our previous parent organization had disbanded. Even today challenges remain and new adventures await us.  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will turn 20 years old in 2013.  Star Trek fan, author and historian, Larry Nemecek, will be attending CONduit 23 as a guest.  And probably the biggest event, the new Star Trek Into Darkness will be released on May 17th.  This will be an opportunity to promote both the movie and the club as well.

So what else will we be doing in 2013?  There are many months that we could fill with many fun club activities.  At the January 9th meeting we will be putting together the 2013 calendar of events.  We need everyone to show up and submit your ideas and feedback on many different events and community service that the club can participate in.  This will be at the Weber County Library-Main Branch (25th and Jefferson in Ogden).  This is your club, what would you like to see it do?

It’s the end of the world as we know it

So if popular rumor is to be believed, this Friday is the end of the world.  So we’ve decided to move our New Years Eve party to Friday, December 21st to make sure we don’t miss out.  Lt. Frank Buck has offered to host the party at 7:00pm at his home in Layton.  Bring a dish to share (we are going with a Mexican food theme) and come prepared to have fun as we count down the final seconds.  Or not as the case may be.  We are still planning to have fun despite the bad rumors.  Bring a friend for the end of the world and we will see you there.

Also don’t forget that this is also the time we will be doing out gift exchange.  Normally we would have it at our December monthly meeting, but that was canceled due to conflicting schedules.  So bring your (insert color here) elephant gift exchange ($10 limit if you are purchasing anything).
