Greetings, all! It’s amazing to me that summer is already over. The fifth annual Salt Lake City Comic Con is coming up next week. We will be there, teaming up with the USS White Buffalo, raising funds for Extra Life, in conjunctions with Children’s Miracle Network.
Come say hi to us at booth 2350, and check out the Artemis bridge simulator! Can you defeat the enemy and get your crew back safely?

We have some more exciting things coming up in the next few weeks. Be prepared for interviews, history, introductions, and many more great things.

Just as a reminder: one of our directives as a club is to do whatever we can to help our fellow beings and make our real world a better place. One of the ways in which you can do this is by donating something of value to a worthy cause. At this time, the American Red Cross is in desperate need of blood donations. Upwards of 5000 individuals are in desperate need of blood transfusions. If you are able to do so, please go donate blood to help our fellow humans in need. If you can’t donate blood, please donate money, items, or time. Even if that time is just a few seconds to pass on the information to your network of friends.

Remember that on Saturday, October 7th, we are going to Black Island Farms corn maze. As of this writing, there are great deals available on KSL, that are far better than any discount we can get. These will sell out quickly, so I urge you to get to the site and get your passes ordered.

Seventh Fleet MS Walk team needs your help

Two friends of mine have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Since then, it has been my mission to get in shape, to live a healthy lifestyle, and to do something about MS now. That is why I am walking in Walk MS 2013http://goo.gl/KRCPB>on April 27th at the Gateway Mall with Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet http://www.seventhfleet.org>.

MS interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms vary from person to person. One person may experience fatigue and numbness, while another may
experience dizziness and have loss of balance. Local Walk MS events are connecting communities to end MS forever. This event raises critical funds to support local programs and cutting-edge research. Your participation puts us closer to realizing our promise to STOP MS in its tracks, RESTORE lost function and END MS forever. Ending MS means no one will receive an MS diagnosis again. Every step counts. Every dollar helps. Every connection matters.

This year, I have pledged to raise at least $250 to move us closer to a world free of MS. Please support my fundraising efforts. Your donation will help the National MS Society provide award-winning programs and services for those affected by MS.

$35 — Could assist self-help groups in supporting people affected by MS in our community.

$65 — Could fund wellness programs, aimed at treating the mind, body and spirit.

$120 — Could help pay for a physical therapy session to manage MS symptoms by enhancing strength and mobility.

$200 — Could help fuel our cause to help influence change by engaging elected officials to make multiple sclerosis a national priority.

Election Day 2010

On Tuesday, November 2, 2010 it is time once again for the citizens of the United States to head to the polling place.  This is the date that we need to decide who we want to lead us over the next several years.  We will be voting for senators, governors and many other positions.  There are also various initiatives and amendments that will be voted upon as well.  I hope that you have all had a chance to review the candidates from3-4 different political parties (and some independents).

Members of the USS Ticonderoga can also earn Service Points for voting in the election.  After you have performed your civic duty, feel free to add it to your duty report.  We don’t need to know who you voted for.  Just that you voted.

Ticonderoga Halloween Events

We have a very cool opportunity to have two Halloween events at the end of October.  One of them will even fall under our Community Service mission.  First we’ve been invited to the First Annual Ogden Zombie Crawl in downtown Ogden on Friday, October 29th.  It was specifically requested that we have several dead Trekkies on hand for the crawl at 4:30-5:00pm at the Union Station.  They extended the offer for our group through Robert Aswin of the ERT Ghostbusters of Salt Lake.  Robert use to be a member of the Ticonderoga and after moving to Salt Lake is now a member of our sister ship, the USS Kelly.  We hope to see other members of the Seventh Fleet in attendance as well.  Any of us who show up to be dead Trekkies (or help in other matters) will be able to get into the post-party for free.  There will also be a special showing of Night of the Living Dead and (for an extra charge) an overnight ghost hunt/Paranormal sleepover at the Ogden Union Station.  If you would like to participate in this, please contact Captain Carl Stark so he can pass on your name to Robert.  I would recommend reading the rules listed and then deciding how you would like to help.  The Zombie Crawl will have make up artists on hand to help zombify you.  The proceeds from this event are donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Thus we will be awarding service points towards rank advancements for those who participate.

Our second fun Halloween event is our annual USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party on Saturday, October 30th.  This year we have moved the party to the home of Crewman Hollie Caudell in Clinton.  Anyone can show up after 4:30pm.  There will be three firepits and we are looking at watching some comedy/horror films together.  Currently in the running is Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead.  Crewman Caudell will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs for grilling.  Bring your own drinks and a dish to share.  Also for the trick or treaters, please bring a bag of candy.  We will have several adult volunteers to take the kids trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.  This is our official activity for the month.

USS Ticonderoga Activity: Wings and Wheels

At our September meeting the crew voted for our September USS Ticonderoga activity.  We will be going to the Wings and Wheels Car and Airplane show at the Hill AFB Museum on Saturday, September 18th.  This will also count as one of our community service events since the “cost” of admission is a non-perishable item for the local food drive. 

There will be classic and unique cars on display and the museum will have an “Open cockpit” option on several airplanes.  There will also be live music and a chili cook off during the day.  This will start at 9:00am and run until 4:30pm.  Try to be there as early as possible and we will meet together near the entrance.  This would also be a good event to bring the kids or new recruits who are interested in checking out the club.
