September Already!!!!!

Greetings, all!

If you’re just finding us after FanX, welcome! Thank you for taking the time to check us out.

Our monthly meeting is this Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at the Roy branch of the Weber county library; 2039 w. 4000 s., Roy. Our meeting room will be open at 6:30 pm, and we will start with the informational part of the meeting at 7 pm.
A)-Don’t forget your awesome show-n-tell items.
B)-Remember that Damon will be asking a couple questions from the latest issue of the newsletter and has prizes to hand out for correct answers. (You can find the latest newsletter under the download links.)

The basics: we have been around for over twenty years. Our area of patrol covers from Ogden to Kaysville (roughly), and are a founding member of a larger group of Star Trek clubs, Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet. The fleet stretches from southern Idaho (Burley/Heyburn/Rupert and Idaho Falls, specifically), all the way down to Utah county.

We are a free club, because, as Admiral Stark likes to say, it already costs too much to be a Star Trek fan. What this means on a practical basis is that you pay your own way. We try to have a good mix of free and paid activities, to include the largest number of people. From time to time, we will hold fundraising events, generally for larger items like ship banners and the medals that we award for various reasons.

As far as involvement goes, you can be as active or as passive as you’d like. Some people enjoy going through the ranks and taking on leadership roles within the club. Others prefer to just come and have fun with like-minded people. All are welcome. We make sure it’s easy to cater to your personal level of enjoyment.

(Also, in case you’re wondering, no, we don’t care if you are a member of another Star Trek – or any other fandom – club; and no, we aren’t *just* about Star Trek.)

On other fronts, this is the last month for the awesome display at the Roy library. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, make sure you do so. Maybe come to the meeting a little early, so you have time to peruse the amazing collection.

To end this post, I’ll just drop a reminder here about the Klingon End of Summer BBQ. Saturday, September 28, 1-4 pm, at Central park, 330 Center st., Clearfield. BYOM and something to share. The ship will provide plates, napkins, utensils, basic condiments, and charcoal for the grill.

Thanks again for your time, and I hope to see you all there on Wednesday!

A New Year and the Chain of Command

January 27, 2018
Promoting the rear admiral to vice admiral

Greetings, all! And happy new year!
I hope the first weeks of 2019 have been treating you well. We have a great opportunity to truly show off what the otters can do, when we host the annual Fleet Banquet on the 26th. I have full faith that we can blow it out of the water – we’ve pulled together and made great things happen many times in the past.
Thank you, all, for a great 2018. I know we can make 2019 even better.

A short note on chain of command, both within the club and within the fleet. There has been much discussion concerning observing the chain of command, which is also the chain of communication.
When we’re talking about official communications, there is a very specific trail to follow: department chief > first officer > commanding officer > fleet council > admiralty board. If you truly feel as though you have an issue that you can’t discuss with your department chief, your first option should be another department chief, or the assistant department chief, who can then bring it to the X.O., who can then take it to the C.O. Ideally, we are close enough that we can take care of issues quickly and between the involved parties. If, for whatever reason, you feel as though you can’t speak directly to the necessary party, there are workarounds to solve any issues.
There have been occasions within the fleet wherein members of a ship have gone either directly to the admiralty, or to members of a different ship, disrespecting and disregarding the official chain of command, blowing problems completely out of proportion, and blindsiding their COs and XOs when the issues are brought up at fleet council meetings. Keep in mind that this is *only* for official fleet business or issues. Chatting with other members of our fleet-wide family is welcomed and encouraged.

Thank you all for your time. See you next time!

Website Under Construction

Hard at work

Greetings, All!

I hope you’re surviving the cold weather we’re having. ( Personally, I will be very happy when the warm weather returns.)

As you may have noticed, there are parts of our site here that are terribly out of date. We are working on getting things fixed. We have a crack(ed) team of specialists working to mend, spit and polish her up.  Please be patient as we work our way through this endeavor.

Our events calendar is always up-to-date, so you can go there for quick checks.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already done so, please take a gander at the latest newsletter. It’s big and beautiful and full of fun stuff.

Our meeting on December 12th is our annual Mugato Gift Exchange. This year, our mugato is red. What this means is that if the gift you bring is red, you get a little treat. (It must be the gift itself that is red, not the wrapping paper/bag.)  All gifts need to be wrapped and anonymous. If you choose something that is new and store bought, please don’t spend more than $10.00 on it. We’re just having fun and don’t want to break the bank. Handmade items are always popular. If the item you bring is used, please make sure that it is clean, has all it’s parts, and is in good working order. In short, make it something that you would like to receive.

We will be meeting in the classroom in December, so that we can have treats.

I hope to see you all there. We have some fun things to hand out before the craziness gets underway.

As you slide down the banisters of life, may the slivers never point the wrong way.  =)

USS Ticonderoga meeting on Wednesday

Don’t forget that the USS Ticonderoga meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at the Roy Library.  We will gather at 6:30pm for our social time with the meeting starting at 7:00pm.  We may have some new visitors who just found out about us from the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention.  There will also be some special show and tell presentations.  If you ordered a 20th Anniversary Seventh Fleet t-shirt, the money is due at the meeting.  See you there.

October 2017 Captain’s Blog

Happy October!
I hope everyone had a great summer! It’s been very busy few months. Happily, things are slowing down, but we still have a bunch of fun things to close out the year.

Next Saturday, October 7th, we are taking our annual trip to Black Island Farms corn maze. On October 28th, we’re having a costume party for Halloween.

Coming up in November, we will be going to Seaquest Aquarium inside Layton Hills mall. The following weekend we will be participating in an away team with the Order of the Ba’tleth, going to check out the Viking display at the Utah Museum of Natural History.

In December, we will be having our annual Mugato gift exchange – this year he is cobalt blue – and our annual mid-winter barbecue on New Year’s Eve.

Remember that at our January meeting, we will be filling out our activity calendar for 2018. Please bring your ideas, your suggestions, and have an idea of which month you would like to see it held. Your suggestions can be for activities that we’ve done before, or activities we’ve never tried. If you can have information regarding costs, as well, that would be awesome!

Our Klingon department just held it’s first activity and meeting, and will be holding another soon. Annie Stephens has jumped on the chance to run the Star Wars department, so be looking for some more information regarding activities in this group. 2018 will see the introduction of the Harry Potter department, and hopefully other special interest departments following. If you’d like to run a special interest department, please be sure to let your department chief know, and they will pass that info along to myself and our inimitable XO.

Thank you, all, for your time and attention. Hope to wee you all, out and about!

From the Captain: August 2017 events

Greetings, All! And happy August.  The summer has been so filled with events and occurrences (some good, some sad, some irritating) that it just got away from us.

We still have a LOT of activities coming up, so we’re not done yet.  First up is the “We Can’t go to Star Trek: Las Vegas” trip to Wendover, NV. There are still some spaces left on the fun bus. (Follow link for details)
August 12th is Fleet day! Come join other members of the fleet for a day of games, food and fun! Please RSVP to me by Saturday, Aug 5th, if you are planning on partaking of the lunch provided. (Follow link for details)
Fleet Day info
Also, if you are able, please remember to bring a small donation for the command project:
(We will have a box at the August meeting if you wish to donate, but won’t be attending Fleet day.)
August 21st is the Solar Eclipse party. Join us as we check out this super rare event. (Most of us will only get to experience a full solar eclipse once or twice in our lifetimes!) (Follow link for details)
Don’t forget our regular monthly meeting, Wednesday, August 9th, at the Roy library, 7 pm. Don’t forget to bring your show-and-tell items.
For our new and returning department chiefs, the Senior Officers’ Meeting will be taking place on Friday, August 11th, at Starbase 40.
Keep an eye out for the announcement of the Admiral’s game. We will be the guinea pig for Admiral Stark’s game.

September is shaping up to be chock-full of activities, as well.  I hope to see you all at some or all of these activities.

April is here? Yes it is.

Wow we were so busy with March with our activities and the Salt Lake Comic Con FanX booth that we blinked and March was over.  Many thanks to the volunteers who helped out at the booth.  We had several compliments on how relaxed our “Ten Forward Lounge Theme” was set up.  So here is what we have coming up in April.

Wednesday, April 12th is our monthly meeting.  However our regular meeting location, the Roy Library, is booked for this month.  Luckily Ticonderoga crewmembers Damon and Amanda Ricks were able to set us up with a temporary location for this month.  So we will be meeting at the Marshall White Community Center located at 222 28th Street in Ogden.  The Ricks have set up a special event for our meeting so be on time for some prizes.  The meeting starts at 7:00pm and feel free to bring a friend.  In May we will be back at the Roy Library.

The Ticonderoga Senior Officer’s meeting will be held on Friday, April 14th at Starbase 40.  Please let the Captain know if you will be attending so she can make sure there is enough food for dinner.

April 21-23 are the dates for the StarFest convention in Denver. This is the 40th Anniversary of the convention and a lot of Seventh Fleet members are attending.  (especially if we missed the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention last August)  We have a discount ticket code from our friends on the USS Pioneer.  If you are interested in going, contact the Captain.  A few members may still have spots open for rides and/or rooms.  Walter Koenig and Rene Auberjonois are two Star Trek actors who will be in attendance at the convention.  This would also count as an out-of-state convention for those working towards the ‘command grade’ ranks.  Additional details can be found at www.StarFestDenver.com

We have a free event for Saturday, April 29th.  We will be visiting the Hill AFB Museum.  However instead of just wandering between exhibits as we have done before, we have a guided tour.  Please be at the museum lobby before noon in order to go on the tour.  We may have several visitors from other chapters joining us for this event.

Just a week later will be our May activity on Saturday the 6th.  We will be meeting at a park in Clearfield or Layton for a rocket launch and drone races.  This will run from 11:30am-3:30pm.  Bring your own picnic lunch for the event.

What should we do for 2017?

The new year is here (finally).  As we do at every January meeting, we fill out our calendar for what events we would like to do.  Is there an activity or charity event that you would like to see the Ticonderoga participate in?  Bring the details to the January 11th meeting and we can see can find a time for it.

As mentioned above, the January meeting will be on the 11th at the Roy Library.  We will still be starting at 7:00pm.  Bring a friend, bring family, just be there.

We do have one activity already lined up, on Saturday, January 28th.  This is the date of our annual Seventh Fleet Admiral’s Banquet.  The host is the USS Valkyrie and they have already covered the food costs (yes you do not need to pay for food, but a donation jar will be available if you wish to donate).  The meal will be a potato bar.  If you cannot have this, you are welcome to bring your own meal.  This will start at 2:00pm and will contain speeches and videos from the different chapters.  This is a uniformed or nice-dress event. It is also a very wonderful opportunity to meet the other members of our Star Trek family.  Please RSVP with the Captain ASAP if you wish to attend this event.  She needs to turn in a head count for this event.

Happy New Year everyone.

Welcome to the end… of 2016.

We have finally reached December in this year of Trek.  We celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, the 30th Anniversary of the USS Kelly (our parent chapter) and the 20th Anniversary of the USS Ticonderoga as a club.  But the fun is not over yet.  December is very busy with holidays and parties.  So we limit ourselves during this hectic month to a few items.

First is our regular monthly meeting.  Wednesday, December 14th at 7:00pm.  We are returning to the Roy Library (2039 West 4000 South) and we will be in activity center two.  Every December we hold our gift exchange.  (Think white elephant with a Star Trek twist).  Here is some information from Captain Stark about our Purple Mugato gift exchange.

The Rules:
-Gift must be clean and complete – no missing pieces, no used hygiene items. (Think something that you wouldn’t mind winding up with when all is said and done.)
-Gift must be family-friendly.
-Gift must be wrapped and anonymous, and please don’t spend any more than $10.00 if you are making a purchase (creating items is encouraged).
-Each person that wishes to participate in the gift exchange must bring a gift.
-Don’t forget, if the gift itself (not the wrapping) is the same color as our mugato, you get a treat!

Also at the meeting don’t forget to turn in your $10 for the 2017 Seventh Fleet Calendar.  This is going to be the sixth straight year that the fleet has produced a calendar for the Star Trek family.

On Friday, December 16th Captain Stark will be hosting the Senior Officer’s Meeting at Starbase 40.  This will be at 7:00pm.  Please brown-bag/drive through your dinner for the night.  Captain Stark has a LOT of information from the recent Seventh Fleet Council meeting to go over.

New Years Eve we will be holding our annual party.  This will be at the home of Lt. Frank Buck in Layton.  The food theme this year will be Italian dishes.  Please see your department chief for food assignments.

What we are doing in November

2x08eWow, November 2016 already?  We dive into the holiday season with a variety of different activities and events.

Saturday, November 5th starting at 2:00pm the crew of the USS Ticonderoga will be gathering at the home of Kathy Campbell in Ogden (contact the Captain for the address).  We will be watching episodes or movies and working on rank advancement ADVOTs.  This is also a pot-luck so bring a dish to share (and your own drinks).

Tuesday, November 8th is Election Day.  To make this world a better place, we would like to encourage you to vote for the candidates of your choice.  On your duty report that you turn in at the start of December just note that you have voted and you will earn Leadership promotional merit points.

Wednesday, November 9th is the date of the USS Ticonderoga general meeting.  PLEASE NOTE: because the Roy Library was booked, we will be meeting at the Layton Library (Address: 155 Wasatch Dr near Layton High School).  Because we have to be done with the meeting at 8:30pm we will be skipping the 30 min “catch up” time that we usually have (in other words we will be starting right at 7:00pm instead of 7:30).  We don’t know if we will have time for show in tell but Admiral Stark will have the latest copy of the new Star Trek Encyclopedia to show off.

Friday, November 11 the Ticonderoga Senior Officers will be meeting.  Senior Officers please talk with the CO or XO for details.

Saturday, November 12th the Tactical Department is hosing a Co-op Game Night.  Details can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1383769328307491/

We hope that everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving Day on November 24th.  If you are braving the crowds on Black Friday, be safe.
