We have a very cool opportunity to have two Halloween events at the end of October. One of them will even fall under our Community Service mission. First we’ve been invited to the First Annual Ogden Zombie Crawl in downtown Ogden on Friday, October 29th. It was specifically requested that we have several dead Trekkies on hand for the crawl at 4:30-5:00pm at the Union Station. They extended the offer for our group through Robert Aswin of the ERT Ghostbusters of Salt Lake. Robert use to be a member of the Ticonderoga and after moving to Salt Lake is now a member of our sister ship, the USS Kelly. We hope to see other members of the Seventh Fleet in attendance as well. Any of us who show up to be dead Trekkies (or help in other matters) will be able to get into the post-party for free. There will also be a special showing of Night of the Living Dead and (for an extra charge) an overnight ghost hunt/Paranormal sleepover at the Ogden Union Station. If you would like to participate in this, please contact Captain Carl Stark so he can pass on your name to Robert. I would recommend reading the rules listed and then deciding how you would like to help. The Zombie Crawl will have make up artists on hand to help zombify you. The proceeds from this event are donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thus we will be awarding service points towards rank advancements for those who participate.
Our second fun Halloween event is our annual USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party on Saturday, October 30th. This year we have moved the party to the home of Crewman Hollie Caudell in Clinton. Anyone can show up after 4:30pm. There will be three firepits and we are looking at watching some comedy/horror films together. Currently in the running is Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead. Crewman Caudell will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs for grilling. Bring your own drinks and a dish to share. Also for the trick or treaters, please bring a bag of candy. We will have several adult volunteers to take the kids trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. This is our official activity for the month.
Just a quick reminder, the next USS Ticonderoga meeting will be on Wednesday the 13th at 7:00pm. This will be at our usual spot at the Weber County Library on 25th and Jefferson in Ogden. Don’t forget to bring a show-n-tell and a friend. Do we want to go out for dinner afterwards?
Also we held our last USS Ticonderoga RPG earlier this month. The question I want to know from everyone is what would you do when the announcement came over the speakers that we have accidentally entered Romulan space? We had a massive overload of power get dumped into the engines and we had to eject the primary warp core to stop. Unfortunately we still careened into enemy territory and we now have a Romulan fleet racing towards our position. On top of that we still have the unknown entity that has been taking over Vulcans and causing the technical problems.
Wow, where did September go? The Wings and Wheels was great. Quite a few crewmembers came down and donated canned goods. The Ticonderoga Staff held their monthly staff meeting and planned out the next several months. Contact your Department Chief for details. Don’t forget that we also had our monthly meeting and we started the month with the USS Ticonderoga RPG. Since it is the end of the month, now would be the time to fill out your Monthly Duty Report. You can find it online here: http://DutyReport.USSTiconderoga.org
See you all in October. Halloween party coming up.
At our September meeting the crew voted for our September USS Ticonderoga activity. We will be going to the Wings and Wheels Car and Airplane show at the Hill AFB Museum on Saturday, September 18th. This will also count as one of our community service events since the “cost” of admission is a non-perishable item for the local food drive.
There will be classic and unique cars on display and the museum will have an “Open cockpit” option on several airplanes. There will also be live music and a chili cook off during the day. This will start at 9:00am and run until 4:30pm. Try to be there as early as possible and we will meet together near the entrance. This would also be a good event to bring the kids or new recruits who are interested in checking out the club.
As you all know, the crew of the USS Retributor has been putting together the Seventh Fleet RPG using the Decipher Star Trek RPG rules. For the past several months we have been putting together characters and Captain Stark has been getting fleet updates of adventures that our fellow chapters have been going through. On Friday we finally had a chance to sit down and game an adventure set up for the USS Ticonderoga. Several crew members were in attendance with their own characters and Captain Rouviere (who was our game master) was prepared with several pre-generated characters for those who showed up. We had a mixture of RPG veterans and those just getting a taste of Role Playing. The crew had a blast.
Currently we are headed at top speed to the Romulan Neutral Zone in response to a possible Romulan incursion. There is a lot more happening on the ship as well.
If you participated in the game on Friday, please post a report from your character in the comments section. If you are working on a character or if you would like to make a character, please post in the comments what you would like that character to be (name, race, special features, etc.) We are looking to hold another game soon and we have several volunteers who can help you put your character together.
The second Wednesday is coming up very soon. Our September USS Ticonderoga Monthly Meeting will be held on Wednesday the 8th at 7:00pm. We will be meeting at the Weber County Library-Main Auditorium in the basement. This is the library at 25th and Jefferson in Ogden. This meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend or find out more about our club. We will have various announcements, information on upcoming events and we will be passing out awards and promotions. We will be having a discussion on what our September activity will be so this is your chance to comment on the various options. We look forward to seeing everyone. Don’t forget to bring your Star Trek show-in-tell items and I’d love to see everyone bring their Seventh Fleet Olympic medals.
Happy New Staryear!!!!! In the Seventh Fleet we have set up a system (documented on our website under Stardates) to translate calendar dates to “stardates”. This gives our documentation a 24th Century feel that we see in the show. They are not official and can’t really be used to translate the stardates we see on the show. But it is something we have been using for quite some time. Several members have also used these on their various blogs.
The new seasons of past Star Trek television series usually first aired in September. Thus the new season of stardates would go up by one number. This is the reason we start our new year in September. So Happy New Year and welcome to Stardate 64090.1.
We have announced our winners for our our Caption Contests. Erica was the winner of the Kirk Alone photo (#1) with the entry of “Maybe I should have brought doughnuts…” and Dave won the second Caption Contest (the Andorians) with the entry of “We are…. The Blue’s Brothers.”
It is time to run our second poll. This time we are going to ask you about your first “Star Trek moment” What was the moment you realized that you were a Star Trek fan? Were you watching a specific episode, were you attending a club meeting, was it at a convention? When did you realize that you were having fun with Star Trek? Feel free to be creative and descriptive since we know that everyone loves Star Trek for different reasons.
Please post your responses in the comments section. We look forward to reading them.
Several members of the USS Ticonderoga at the 2010 Seventh Fleet Olympics
The Seventh Fleet Olympics was held on Saturday, August 21 in Layton, Utah. We had the opportunity to have fun with members of our Star Trek family from the USS Atlantis, USS Kelly, USS Rendezvous and USS Retributor. A lot of Ticonderoga members walked away with medals, and more importantly more friendships. We hope to post the results very soon. What events did you guys like the most at the Olympics?
