Happy Holidays from the USS Ticonderoga

No matter what it is you celebrate this time of year, make it a good one.  Star Trek celebrates IDIC so we have a lot of members on the USS Ticonderoga that come from different cultures and backgrounds.  We here at the USS Ticonderoga hope that you and your family have the happiest of times. Don’t forget that we have the USS Ticonderoga New Years Eve Party coming up soon.

December USS Ticonderoga monthly meeting

Greetings All!

Just a quick reminder that this month’s meeting is the annual “White Mugato”  or “Purple Targ” (as you prefer) Gift Exchange.  It will be at the Weber County Library on 25th and Jefferson at 7:00pm on Wednesday the 8th.  We will be in our usual spot in the auditorium in the basement.  Just look for the USS Ticonderoga flag just outside the door.
Anyone wanting to participate must bring a wrapped, unmarked gift.  Please remember, NO previously-used personal hygiene items, nothing broken, missing parts, or just gross in general – unless it’s supposed to be that way.  If it’s something that you personally wouldn’t appreciate getting due to it’s condition, it’s probably a good bet no one else will appreciate it, either.  As far as gag or joke gifts go, just remember that this is a family-oriented group, so keep it a PG rating, please.   If you have nothing to re-gift and can’t/don’t want to make something, please remember that there is a $10.00 max amount to be spent.  We want everyone to have fun, not go broke.  =)
Hope to see you all there!

November Ticonderoga Activity: Harry Potter viewing

For the month of November the crew of the USS Ticonderoga will be going to the Layton Tinsletown to watch the latest Harry Potter movie, The Deathly Hallows Part I.  This will be on Saturday the 20th and we will be meeting at the theater at 4:30pm.   We will be getting in on the last matinée viewing at 5:10pm.  The tickets will be $6.25.  We would recommend getting the tickets in advance.  The address to the theater is 720 West 1500 North next to the Layton Hills Mall.  NOTE: Originally we were planning to go to the Megaplex 13 but they had already sold out several weeks ago.

Lt. Frank Buck is willing to swing by and pick up tickets for crewmembers.  If you want to make arrangements with him you can email him at SecurityChief@USSTiconderoga.org

Before the movie we will vote on where we want to go to dinner when the movie has been completed.  Some of the nominees are New York Pizza Department (next to the theaters), Asian Buffet (next to Pet’s Mart on Hill Field Road) or the new Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Antelope Drive.

Changes coming for the USS Ticonderoga

At the monthly USS Ticonderoga meeting on Wednesday, November 10th, Admiral Dennis Hollinger made an announcement regarding the Seventh Fleet.  With the growth of our Star Trek family, with more and more chapters, there has become a need for additional assistance in fleet operations.  Admiral Hollinger has named Captain Carl Stark as his new assistant and will be promoting him to the rank of Rear Admiral at the January 29th Admiral’s Banquet.

To fill the position of USS Ticonderoga Commanding Officer, Lt. Erica Stark will be given a field promotion to Captain.  This promotion and change of command will also happen at the Admiral’s Banquet.  A field promotion means that Lt. Stark will continue with her rank advancement program set down by the fleet and also report her progress at regular intervals to the Seventh Fleet Council.

With the change of command will also come a change of command styles.  Some things will remain the same.  The USS Ticonderoga will still be focused on serving our Star Trek family, on completing our community service projects and our goal of having fun with our fandom.  But there will be some changes that come with a new commanding officer.  Soon to be Captain Erica Stark has asked Lt. Dave Stock to be her Executive Officer when the change of command happens in January.  She has also asked Lt. Kevin Hancock to remain on the Command Staff as the Second Officer/Strategic Operations Officer, continuing his position that he has fulfilled for the past several years.

After the change of command ceremony, all current Department Chiefs will be released from their positions, with our thanks.  Starting now, anyone may apply for any department chief position.  An application and list of department chief duties will be available at the December 8th USS Ticonderoga monthly meeting.  The new department chief’s will officially be introduced at the Ticonderoga’s February meeting.  There will also be an opportunity for crewmembers to transfer between any department with one exception.  Due to the massive size of the Tactical Department, a transfer into that department will only be allowed if someone leaves that department.

If you have any questions regarding the changes or transfers, feel free to contact your Department Chief or a member of the Command Staff.

Tally ho,
Captain Carl Stark, Commanding Officer
USS Ticonderoga, NCC-74676

Personal Note from Captain Carl Stark: I’ve had the opportunity to serve as your commanding officer since 1996.  This has been a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, support you as members of my Star Trek family and learn from each and every one of you.  I will still be coming to future meetings and activities, I just get to enjoy the seats as a member of the audience.  I ask that you support soon to be Captain Erica Stark as much as you have supported me.  I know she has a lot of wonderful ideas on where she wants to take the club in our travels through the undiscovered country.  I also ask that you don’t make the assumption that if a piece of information was given to one of us, that it was automatically passed on to the other.  Both of our positions will require us to do a lot of talking and traveling and things may slip through the cracks.  Lets make sure we are using the proper lines of communication that we have set up within our organization.  This has been one of our strengths in the past, lets continue to use that strength now in our time of change.  I thank you all for being members of my Star Trek family and I look forward to serving all of you in a larger capacity.

Changes in store at next meeting

Greetings!  This week brings our general monthly meeting for November.  As has been hinted at, there are some exciting changes coming for the ship and the fleet.   The official announcement will be made at the meeting, and then will be disseminated afterward.  In anticipation of this announcement, we will have some special guests joining us.  Please come and be among the first to hear the exciting news, and give our guests a warm Ticonderoga welcome.   The meeting will be at our traditional spot: Ogden library auditorium, 7 pm.  Bring a friend and something for show and tell.

Election Day 2010

On Tuesday, November 2, 2010 it is time once again for the citizens of the United States to head to the polling place.  This is the date that we need to decide who we want to lead us over the next several years.  We will be voting for senators, governors and many other positions.  There are also various initiatives and amendments that will be voted upon as well.  I hope that you have all had a chance to review the candidates from3-4 different political parties (and some independents).

Members of the USS Ticonderoga can also earn Service Points for voting in the election.  After you have performed your civic duty, feel free to add it to your duty report.  We don’t need to know who you voted for.  Just that you voted.

Poll: Future on the USS Ticonderoga

Ok for our next poll we want to hear from everyone about what they would like to see in the future of the USS Ticonderoga.  Is there an activity you would like to do?  Do you have a community service event that the club could help out with?  Any suggestions for the ranking system or the way meetings are run?  Do you have thoughts about the website or newsletter or anything?  This is an opportunity to post any suggestions or comments that you would like about the club.  Just click on “Comments” below and let us know what you think.

Ticonderoga Halloween Events

We have a very cool opportunity to have two Halloween events at the end of October.  One of them will even fall under our Community Service mission.  First we’ve been invited to the First Annual Ogden Zombie Crawl in downtown Ogden on Friday, October 29th.  It was specifically requested that we have several dead Trekkies on hand for the crawl at 4:30-5:00pm at the Union Station.  They extended the offer for our group through Robert Aswin of the ERT Ghostbusters of Salt Lake.  Robert use to be a member of the Ticonderoga and after moving to Salt Lake is now a member of our sister ship, the USS Kelly.  We hope to see other members of the Seventh Fleet in attendance as well.  Any of us who show up to be dead Trekkies (or help in other matters) will be able to get into the post-party for free.  There will also be a special showing of Night of the Living Dead and (for an extra charge) an overnight ghost hunt/Paranormal sleepover at the Ogden Union Station.  If you would like to participate in this, please contact Captain Carl Stark so he can pass on your name to Robert.  I would recommend reading the rules listed and then deciding how you would like to help.  The Zombie Crawl will have make up artists on hand to help zombify you.  The proceeds from this event are donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Thus we will be awarding service points towards rank advancements for those who participate.

Our second fun Halloween event is our annual USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party on Saturday, October 30th.  This year we have moved the party to the home of Crewman Hollie Caudell in Clinton.  Anyone can show up after 4:30pm.  There will be three firepits and we are looking at watching some comedy/horror films together.  Currently in the running is Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead.  Crewman Caudell will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs for grilling.  Bring your own drinks and a dish to share.  Also for the trick or treaters, please bring a bag of candy.  We will have several adult volunteers to take the kids trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.  This is our official activity for the month.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

October Ticonderoga meeting and RPG report

Just a quick reminder, the next USS Ticonderoga meeting will be on Wednesday the 13th at 7:00pm.  This will be at our usual spot at the Weber County Library on 25th and Jefferson in Ogden.   Don’t forget to bring a show-n-tell and a friend.  Do we want to go out for dinner afterwards?

Also we held our last USS Ticonderoga RPG earlier this month.  The question I want to know from everyone is what would you do when the announcement came over the speakers that we have accidentally entered Romulan space?  We had a massive overload of power get dumped into the engines and we had to eject the primary warp core to stop.  Unfortunately we still careened into enemy territory and we now have a Romulan fleet racing towards our position.  On top of that we still have the unknown entity that has been taking over Vulcans and causing the technical problems.

So what would your character do?
