We had a lot of people join us at the Rocket Fuel Coffee Company for our last meeting and holiday gift exchange. The crew had a lot of fun exchanging (and stealing) gifts. A favorite drink for several members was the Hot Chocolate with white chocolate or the Italian Sodas. Apparently we impressed the owners of the coffee shop. They asked if we wanted to return for future monthly meetings we usually hold on the second Wednesday of the month. The owners were willing to give us a 10% discount on our orders. It was also not required that everyone purchase in order to participate. Our meetings would still start at 7:00pm (but that wouldn’t stop people from arriving early to get drinks or food if they wanted). The library meeting room closes at 8:30pm, the coffee shop closes at 9:00pm. Both locations have free wi-fi. The coffee shop is on main street (and a main bus line). The library would be a classroom type setting where the coffee shop would be more of a living room style setting. Both locations are open to the public but we can close the door to the room at the library. There are positives and negatives to both locations. We haven’t signed a contract for the library for the 2014 year. What do you guys think? Stay at the Clearfield Library or move to the Rocket Fuel Coffee shop? As this is your club, please let Captain Stark know what your preferences are. We haven’t made a decision yet without getting input from the crew.
USS Ticonderoga December meeting
It’s finally December. So besides the normal monthly USS Ticonderoga meeting we will also have our annual gift exchange. This year the Captain has chosen the color of Magenta for our Mugato gifts (instead of white elephants). If you wish to participate in this gift exchange, wrap a present that you want to give and bring it. If you want to purchase a gift, please don’t pay any more than $10. Make the gift something you would like to receive yourself (no used loofahs or ABC bubble gum).
This meeting will be on Wednesday, December 11th at 7:00pm. NOTE LOCATION CHANGE. We will be meeting at the Rocket Fuel Coffee shop located at 50 S. State Street in Clearfield. We need to meet here as our December meetings tend to go longer than the closing time of the Clearfield library. January we will return to the library for our meeting.
There are several special announcements that will be made. There will be a discussion on the upcoming Ticonderoga New Years Eve party. We also need your RSVPs for the upcoming Seventh Fleet Admiral’s Banquet on January 25th (so we can get out proper food assignments). We look forward to seeing everyone at one of our largest meetings of the year.
Ticonderoga activity on Saturday: Testing and Dr. Who
So we’ve decided to combine two activities into one for this Saturday, November 23rd. Several crewmembers have asked for a day that they can come and work on ADVOTs. Several other crewmemers would like to take the Academy Exam towards rank advancements. Also this Saturday is the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who. Well we are going to do both at the home of the Executive Officer, Lt. Dave Stock, in Syracuse. Meet at 6:00pm for both events.
If you are looking for a certain ADVOT, you can find them in our special Download ADVOTs section of the website. If there is a specific Academy Exam that you would like to take (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voy or Ent), please let the Captain know as we have limited copies of some exams.
New text reminder program
Several years ago we had a text reminder system. Unfortunately this system fell apart and we could no longer use it. We have now discovered a new way to send a reminder via your cell phone’s SMS texting system. If you choose to participate in this system, we will send a reminder 24 hours just before meetings and activities. So at the most you should receive about 2-3 text messages a month. If you decide that you would like to participate in this system, please send an email to Captain@USSTiconderoga.org with your phone number and name of your mobile carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.). Once we have received your information, we will send you a test text message.
USS Ticonderoga meeting coming up on November 13th
Ok everyone the next USS Ticonderoga meeting is coming up on Wednesday, November 13th. We will be meeting at the Clearfield Library meeting rooms at 7:00pm. Rumor has it that we may have several new orders to hand out. There will be a lot to discuss with the crew so bring a friend. What events do we want to do for November? (we have several options) A discussion was started about reviving our Star Trek Role Playing Game under a new game master. We also need to discuss the upcoming gift exchange between crewmembers and the annual USS Ticonderoga New Years Eve Party.
Note: The last few months we have been going to Baskin-Robbins after the meeting for ice cream. This month we are looking at going to the newly opened Rocket Fuel Coffee located on 50 S. State Street in Clearfield after the meeting. It is possible that we may end up having the gift exchange at this coffee shop in December due to time constraints at the library.
Did you get the ADVOTs that were passed out last month? We are still accepting the “Attend Local Convention” for the Salt Lake Comic Con. However it is suggested that you get them in quickly. Other ADVOTs that you can work on towards your next rank advancement can be found in the Downloads section of the website.
Quick tip: Need some quick Knowledge Points for rank advancements? You can gain points just for watching Star Trek episodes and movies. Just put down the names of the episodes in the “Other items to report” section of your monthly duty report.
USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party
It’s here, it’s here. The USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party is tonight at the Captain’s home in Clearfield. Bring your kids in costume to go trick-or-treating. Bring a bag of candy to share with the kids when they come by. Bring your pot-luck item to share with your fellow shipmates. We will start at 8:00pm for dinner. Who knows what scary movies we may watch. We will also have the fire-pit out front to roast marshmallows for fun.
Ticonderoga Activity: Black Island Farms Cornmaze
It has become an annual tradition to visit a cornmaze for an activity in October. We will be going to the Black Island Farms for this event on Friday, October 25th. The address is 3178 South 3000 West in Syracuse. We will be meeting at 8:00pm. It would be recommended that you eat before coming out.
The adult cost is $11/person for the cornmaze. Kids (3-12) are $9/person. The hayride is $9 for adults and $6 for kids (includes a free pumpkin). A combo is available for both maze and hayride at the price of $16/adults and $11/kids. If you want to go to Nightmare Acres, the cost is $16.
Make sure to dress warmly and bring flashlights. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Upcoming Doctor Who anniversary
Apparently the Doctor is a fan of Star Trek. Well the members of the USS Ticonderoga love other science fiction show as well. In fact at the last meeting there was a discussion about the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who special that is coming up on November 23rd. We have two Doctor Who events for November that we can do as a group. The first is attending a parody play called Doctor U (as in Utah) at the Off Broadway Theater on Saturday November 16th. The second is getting together as a group and watching the 50th Anniversary special. Is someone willing to host the anniversary viewing and has BBC America? If so, please let the Captain or Executive Officer know.
USS Ticonderoga October Meeting on the 9th
October is finally here. We have a lot of events at the end of the month but only one monthly meeting at the start. Yes every second Wednesday we meet at the Clearfield Library (address 562 South 1000 East). The library is just off of I-15 (700 S. Exit, turn West to 1000 East and turn north). The meeting starts at 7:00pm and the first 30 minutes is spent catching up our Star Trek family that we haven’t seen in a month.
Then we will be talking about the upcoming events for October and November. We also still have a lot of new people who found out about us from the Salt Lake Comic Con. Bring your show and tell items and friends who would be interested in having fun with us.
We’ve started a new tradition after the meeting. We are now hitting the Baskin-Robbins in Clearfield (just around the corner from the library) for ice cream and more socialization. They usually have a weekly special on Wednesdays.
Come make some new friends. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Discount passes to Black Island Farms cornmaze
We have several USS Ticonderoga activities in the month of October. The Halloween party at the end of the month. The Ogden Zombie crawl is coming up. Several crewmembers are going to see the Rifftrax live showing of Night of the Living Dead at the Tinsletown Theater in Layton. And a popular event is the annual cornfield maze romp. We’ve been going to the Black Island Farms in Syracuse for several years now and plan to return on Friday, October 25th. Quark found us some discount passes online and passed the information onto us (for a small fee). Both of these deals were found on KSL’s website and are available until they are sold out.
There is a deal for $9/person (normally $16) which will provide admission to the cornfield maze and a trip on the tractor ride (with free pumpkin). And then there is a second deal for $11/person (normally $20) that admits you to the cornfield maze and into Nightmare Acres (the haunted barn).
If the deals are sold out, there are discount coupons available at http://www.BlackIslandFarms.com
