Welcome Spring BBQ event

tumblr_mf7acalO9s1rdz98yo1_400So we are finally glad that warmer weather is here.  It has been way too cold for the past several months.  So we want to celebrate the warm weekend coming up by holding a Welcome Spring BBQ on Saturday, April 27th.  It will be held at the home of Captain Stark in Clearfield and run from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.  Bring your own meat and a dish to share.  We will be playing various games and videos during this event.

Also a quick reminder, if you can still help donate to the Seventh Fleet MS Walk team that will also be held on Saturday.  This is just one of many community service projects happening in the fleet.

USS Ticonderoga March activity- Star Trek Parody Night

80922_oThis Saturday, March 9th, is the anniversary date of the USS Ticonderoga as a club.  We originally started as the chapter-in-training USS Euphrates on this date in 1996.  Since we all join fan clubs to have fun, we decided to celebrate by watching various Star Trek parodies and blooper reels.  We want to laugh with our friends and Star Trek.  At 6:00pm we will meet at the home of Captain Erica Stark and continue to watch funny videos until we get tired.  Bring your own drinks and some snacks to share.

July 4- BYOM BBQ
August 31 – Fleet Games
September 21 – Adopt-a-highway

November 2 – AdVOT/Merit Sheet night
December 31 – New Year’s Eve party

Further details will be announced as we get them set. =)

Remember that most of these are not set in stone, so can be easily changed if something cool pops up. In the next couple of months, Weber county will be publishing it’s RAMP activities, so we may take advantage of one – or more – of the free activities offered over the summer.

It was also decided at tonight’s meeting that this year, our mugato will be emerald green, so keep that in mind for the December meeting.

Happy New Year 2013

Welcome everyone to the year 2013 (Stardate: 66010.1 in the Seventh Fleet system).  The year of 2012 held many good memories for us.  Star Trek: The Next Generation turned 25 years old (and we are celebrating with the TNG Re-Watch Party that is still going on).  We had the re-integration with Utah’s longest running Science Fiction convention, CONduit with special guest Tim Russ (Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager).  At this convention the USS Ticonderoga won the Room Party Contest.  The release of Star Trek: TNG blu-rays had two theater specials.  The Seventh Fleet held a wonderful Admiral’s Banquet and Seventh Fleet games where we had fun with our Star Trek family.   We started role-playing nights for Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons.  And Star Trek returned locally to our airwaves on KTVX 4.2.

So what are we looking forward to in 2013?  This will be the 15th Anniversary of the founding of the Seventh Fleet.  We had to pull together after our previous parent organization had disbanded. Even today challenges remain and new adventures await us.  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will turn 20 years old in 2013.  Star Trek fan, author and historian, Larry Nemecek, will be attending CONduit 23 as a guest.  And probably the biggest event, the new Star Trek Into Darkness will be released on May 17th.  This will be an opportunity to promote both the movie and the club as well.

So what else will we be doing in 2013?  There are many months that we could fill with many fun club activities.  At the January 9th meeting we will be putting together the 2013 calendar of events.  We need everyone to show up and submit your ideas and feedback on many different events and community service that the club can participate in.  This will be at the Weber County Library-Main Branch (25th and Jefferson in Ogden).  This is your club, what would you like to see it do?

It’s the end of the world as we know it

So if popular rumor is to be believed, this Friday is the end of the world.  So we’ve decided to move our New Years Eve party to Friday, December 21st to make sure we don’t miss out.  Lt. Frank Buck has offered to host the party at 7:00pm at his home in Layton.  Bring a dish to share (we are going with a Mexican food theme) and come prepared to have fun as we count down the final seconds.  Or not as the case may be.  We are still planning to have fun despite the bad rumors.  Bring a friend for the end of the world and we will see you there.

Also don’t forget that this is also the time we will be doing out gift exchange.  Normally we would have it at our December monthly meeting, but that was canceled due to conflicting schedules.  So bring your (insert color here) elephant gift exchange ($10 limit if you are purchasing anything).

Changes to November activity and December meeting

Greetings everyone.  At the November USS Ticonderoga meeting we discussed some changes to the upcoming events.  We would like to thank everyone who was in attendance and provided input (this is your club and we appreciate your involvement).  Instead of doing the laser tag on November 17th, the crew elected to make the special theatrical showing of Star Trek: The Next Generation Season Two promo the monthly activity.  This will be held at the Newgate Mall-Cinemark 14 Theaters.  Please be in the lobby at 6:30pm so we can pass out flyers and recruit new members.  Please be in uniform or Star Trek t-shirts.

Normally we have a monthly meeting every Second Wednesday of the month.  However in December the Captain has a family concert on that date.  As  you all remember the December meeting is also when we do our gift exchange (a very popular event).  Options were discussed and the crew elected to move the gift exchange to the End of the World Party that was already scheduled on Friday, December 21st.  There will be no December monthly meeting to give everyone a break for the holidays.

If you have any questions, please post them in the comments below or contact your department chief.

USS Ticonderoga auction on October 27th

It looks like Karl (Dr. McCoy) Urban out-bid someone at the auction for that action figure he wanted.  Are you going to let this happen to you?  You’ll have a chance to beat out the other treasure hunters at the USS Ticonderoga Auction.  This will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 2:00pm.

The event (which is open to anyone in the public) will be held at the home of the Executive Officer, Lt. Dave Stock.  The address is 1190 West 1700 South, Syracuse, UT 84075.  Head North (or South) on I-15 until you come to the Antelope Drive exit in Layton.  Then head west on Antelope Drive until you reach the home in Syracuse (note: Antelope Drive is 1700 South).  Look for the balloons and signs in front of the home.

Besides the auction items, there will also be a dinner available.  The club is providing soups and stews and hot cider for dinner.  The cost will be $3/person or $10/family.  Remember that all funds raised is used to keep the club dues-free and to cover some basic operational costs.  Payments accepted will be cash or check (and the checks can be post-dated).   Please bring your family, friends and chairs.

USS Ticonderoga Activity: Corn Maze at Black Island Farms

So what do you think you’ll see at the Black Island Farms corn maze?  Well we will find out on Saturday, October 13th.  We will be meeting between 5-6pm at the farms located at 3178 South 3000 West  Syracuse, UT 84075.  It is recommended that you eat dinner before arriving at the farm.  Since you need to travel down Antelope Drive there are several fast food choices along that route (A&W, Crown Burger, Burger King, Taco Time, McDonalds, Warren’s, Rancheritos, Article Circle, Wendys, Arbys, Carl’s Jr. and Iceberg Drive Inn to name a few)

The cost for admission is as follows: Corn maze- $10/adults (age 13+) $8/children (ages 3-12). Farm Hayride (with pumpkin) $8/adults (age 13+) $5/children (ages 3-12).  There is also a combo for both the maze and the hayride.  Cost is $15/adults and $10/children.  If we can get more than 15 people to commit by the Oct 10th Ticonderoga Meeting, we can try to get a group discount.  The ticket booth takes cash or checks.  There is an ATM on site.  Don’t forget your jackets and flashlights.

This has been one of our most popular annual activities and is appropriate for all ages.  If you have someone who may be interested in checking out some of the fun things we do as a club, this would be one of the events to bring them too.
