*Update* USS Ticonderoga Monthly Meeting and More

MDA_ShamrockGreetings, Crew!  It’s been a wild couple of months, but I think we’re past the uncertainty now.  The meeting tomorrow, March 12, 7 p.m., will be held in the auditorium at the Roy library.  1950 w. 4800 s., Roy Utah.  UTA bus route 640 has a stop just up the street.  Please remember to bring any show-and-tell items that you may have.

Now for the “and more”.  We are in the month of March, and at many stores and restaurants, you will see the MDA shamrocks pictured above.  These are a good way to get service points, if you are in need of some for your next rank advancement.  The green shamrocks are $1.00, the gold shamrocks are $5.00, and you get a service point for each dollar that you spend.  Now for the fine print.  You have to sign the card with “USS Ticonderoga: Star Trek Fan Club”, and you have to put on your duty report the location it is displayed.   This also counts for the similar fundraisers by Children’s Miracle Network and Primary Children’s Center.

Within the Seventh Fleet, 2014 has been dedicated as the Year of Challenges.  Is there some goal that you are working on for this year? It can be something personal; (losing weight, going back to school, starting a business, etc.,) or something to do with fandom; (Gaining a certain rank by the end of the year, reading a set amount of Star Trek books, putting together a scale model of the fleet, etc.)  I, myself, am working toward attaining the rank of full commander* by the end of the year.  Is there a goal you’ve set, that will probably require stepping out of your comfort zones, that you’d like to be supported in attaining?  We’re looking at putting together a “cheer leader” team, for lack of a better description.  We’ll be brainstorming some ideas for that group, along with updating you on all of the upcoming activities.

*As an aside, once I reach that rank and am fully certified by the Seventh Fleet Admiralty Board, we will be able to choose a new ship.  What class would  you like to see become the Ticonderoga-A?  Something to think about.

Hope to see you all there!

USS Ticonderoga Feb activity Unlimited Laser Tag/Bowling

tumblr_lpnxgrAXtF1qemjzlo1_500At our January meeting it was asked by members of the crew if we could participate in another laser tag event.  We had a lot of fun the last time we had went in 2012.  The crew elected to go back to the Boondocks laser tag arena in Kaysville.  As we were looking over different dates, we discovered that on Tuesday’s, Boondocks had unlimited laser tag and bowling (including shoe rental) for $12/each.  This also included some other events as well.  By comparison, a single laser tag game is $6 and a single bowling game is $4 (not counting shoe rental).  The unlimited time runs from 4:00pm to 10:00pm.  We elected to hold this event on February 25th.  Feel free to show up anytime after 4pm (most will arrive after work schedules permit) and feel free to bring family and friends.

Boondocks is located at 525 West Deseret Drive, Kaysville, UT 84037

Ticonderoga activity on Saturday: Testing and Dr. Who

anim_39_bigSo we’ve decided to combine two activities into one for this Saturday, November 23rd.  Several crewmembers have asked for a day that they can come and work on ADVOTs.  Several other crewmemers would like to take the Academy Exam towards rank advancements.  Also this Saturday is the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who.  Well we are going to do both at the home of the Executive Officer, Lt. Dave Stock, in Syracuse.  Meet at 6:00pm for both events.

If you are looking for a certain ADVOT, you can find them in our special Download ADVOTs section of the website.  If there is a specific Academy Exam that you would like to take (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voy or Ent), please let the Captain know as we have limited copies of some exams.

USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party

omghesdeadjimIt’s here, it’s here.  The USS Ticonderoga Halloween Party is tonight at the Captain’s home in Clearfield.  Bring your kids in costume to go trick-or-treating.  Bring a bag of candy to share with the kids when they come by.  Bring your pot-luck item to share with your fellow shipmates.  We will start at 8:00pm for dinner.  Who knows what scary movies we may watch.  We will also have the fire-pit out front to roast marshmallows for fun.

Ticonderoga Activity: Black Island Farms Cornmaze

Kahn_WaldoIt has become an annual tradition to visit a cornmaze for an activity in October.  We will be going to the Black Island Farms for this event on Friday, October 25th.  The address is 3178 South 3000 West in Syracuse.  We will be meeting at 8:00pm.  It would be recommended that you eat before coming out.

The adult cost is $11/person for the cornmaze.  Kids (3-12) are $9/person.  The hayride is $9 for adults and $6 for kids (includes a free pumpkin).  A combo is available for both maze and hayride at the price of $16/adults and $11/kids.  If you want to go to Nightmare Acres, the cost is $16.

Make sure to dress warmly and bring flashlights.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Upcoming Doctor Who anniversary

Doctor_VulcanSignApparently the Doctor is a fan of Star Trek.  Well the members of the USS Ticonderoga love other science fiction show as well.  In fact at the last meeting there was a discussion about the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who special that is coming up on November 23rd.  We have two Doctor Who events for November that we can do as a group.  The first is attending a parody play called Doctor U (as in Utah) at the Off Broadway Theater on Saturday November 16th.  The second is getting together as a group and watching the 50th Anniversary special.  Is someone willing to host the anniversary viewing and has BBC America?  If so, please let the Captain or Executive Officer know.

Discount passes to Black Island Farms cornmaze

ds2x11d1We have several USS Ticonderoga activities in the month of October.  The Halloween party at the end of the month.  The Ogden Zombie crawl is coming up.  Several crewmembers are going to see the Rifftrax live showing of Night of the Living Dead at the Tinsletown Theater in Layton.  And a popular event is the annual cornfield maze romp.  We’ve been going to the Black Island Farms in Syracuse for several years now and plan to return on Friday, October 25th.  Quark found us some discount passes online and passed the information onto us (for a small fee).  Both of these deals were found on KSL’s website and are available until they are sold out.

There is a deal for $9/person (normally $16) which will provide admission to the cornfield maze and a trip on the tractor ride (with free pumpkin).  And then there is a second deal for $11/person (normally $20) that admits you to the cornfield maze and into Nightmare Acres (the haunted barn).

If the deals are sold out, there are discount coupons available at http://www.BlackIslandFarms.com

Ticonderoga Activity: Hill AFB Museum

94596_oFor the month of July the crew of the USS Ticonderoga voted to attend a free event.  Starting at 1:00pm (so have lunch before you come by) the crew will be meeting just inside the front door to the Hill Air Force Base Museum.  There is no cost for admission.  There are a lot of indoor exhibits but quite a few outdoor ones as well so dress appropriately and bring water.  The museum is just east of the I-15 Roy exit.  Feel free to bring any friends or family.  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Event/Meeting: Introduction to the USS Ticonderoga BBQ

1350122477497For the month of June we have decided to combine both our activity and meeting into one grand event.  Wednesday, June 12th we will be holding an Introduction to the USS Ticonderoga BBQ.  This will start at 7:00pm at the Kiwanis Park in Clearfield.  The address is 300 N. Vine Street.  Bring your own meat to grill and a dish to share.

If you have any questions about the Star Trek fan club, USS Ticonderoga or the Seventh Fleet (our parent organization), Q will be there to answer your questions.  Family and friends are welcome as it adds to the fun.  We will also be discussing the movie promotion and CONduit reviews.  We have changes coming up for the July activity that we need to decide upon.  There is also a discussion on the upcoming Salt Lake Comic Con that we need to plan for.

We can announce that one change has been made.  For the past several years we have been meeting at the Weber County Library in Ogden.  However with the second Wednesdays no longer being available due to the city taking over the meeting space, we needed to find a new location.  We wanted to stick with the second Wednesdays of the month for our meeting, so starting on July 10th we will be meeting at the Davis County North (Clearfield) library located at 562 S 1000 E.  This is just off of the Clearfield 700 south exit of I-15.

We are looking forward to seeing you at many of our upcoming fun activities and meetings.
