USS Ticonderoga May 2014 Meeting

intrepidGreetings, all!  I hope you all had a great weekend, and that all the moms and mom-figures enjoyed their day.

First off, let me thank all of you who came out to the rocket launch on Saturday, May 10th.  We had a great a time blowing bubbles, flying kites, and launching rockets.  (Pictures and videos will be posted as soon as they are transferred from my phone.)

We’ll be doing another launch this summer, so if you didn’t get to join us this weekend, you’ll have another chance mid-July.

The last thing for today – remember that this Wednesday, May 14th, is our regular monthly meeting.  We will be having a barbeque in the park.  Here are the vitals:

Central Park, 140 e. Center st., Clearfield, UT.

Bring your own meat and drink, and a dish to share, and any show and tell items you may have. The ship will provide plates, napkins, utensils, and charcoal for the grill.

I hope to see you all there!

USS Ticonderoga May 2014 Meeting

FanX/TNG_BridgeGreetings, All!

And a special welcome to those finding us from FanX!  I hope you all had a great time, and have recovered from the madness that is a sci-fi convention.

We have a lot of info to get out, so I’ll keep things as succinct as possible.

First off, for you department chiefs – remember that this Saturday, April 26th, is the senior officers’ meeting, this month held at the Prettyman/Lewis home, at 2 pm. Contact me for the address if you haven’t been there before.  Also, if you are going to be unable to attend, please either send a representative with a report, or send me your report directly. Several of us are looking at going to a roller derby game in Ogden afterwards, and anyone that wants to is welcome to join us.

Second, for May, remember that our activity will be taking place before the monthly meeting.

Activity details: Saturday, May 10 – Rocket Launch/Kite fly/Picnic, Ellison Park, Layton, 12 noon until we’re done.

Ellison Park is at the west end of Hill Field road.  Be sure to bring a kite to fly, a rocket to launch, a picnic (if you wish), plus chairs or blankets, sunscreen, and water. We  will have the banner up, and, if you have either a Tico shirt or the new fleet shirt, please wear it.

Meeting details: Wednesday, May 14 – BYOM Barbeque, Central Park, Clearfield, 7 pm.  (Meetings at the Roy library auditorium will resume in June.)

This meeting is bring your own meat & drinks, and a dish to share. The ship will provide plates/napkins/utensils, and charcoal for the grill.  Remember to bring any show-and-tell items, and your convention stories.

As an aside, if you want to purchase a fleet shirt, they are still available, though in limited quantities.  Sizes are adult medium through 3XL, and the shirts are $15.00 each.  We are looking at adding a Tico design to the backs of the shirts.  (If you had a chance to see them at the con, the USS Rendezvous had added the shuttle and ship to the backs of their shirts.) Contact myself or Lt. Dave Stock if you wish to purchase a shirt.

On our long-range sensors, we have the Weber county library event on June 7, from 1-5 pm at the Ogden branch. We will have a booth, and will need people in costume/uniform to mingle for photo-ops.  Any sci-fi and fantasy costumes are welcome, just be sure they are kept at a G or PG rating.

That will cover us for the next several weeks.  We’ll have a game day or two in May, and as soon as we have those dates set, you’ll find the info here, on Facebook, and in your email.  Have a great week!

this Wednesday, April 9th, is the monthly meeting at the Roy branch of the Weber county library, 4800 s. and 1900 w.  in Roy, Utah, at 7 pm.

We’ll be in the auditorium again.  Don’t forget to bring any show-and-tell items you may have.  This will be our last meeting before FanX.  Hope to see you all there.

USS Ticonderoga Roster Update

USSTiconderogaCrew Hello again, everyone.  I hope the rest of your week went well. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the meeting, and I’m loving the energy and excitement.

As some of you may have noticed, we have spent some time updating the crew roster here on the website.  Now, we need some help from you.

Some of our information is outdated, some is outright missing, and many of our pictures are outdated.  (We are working on getting the updated photos from this year’s Fleet Banquet, for those who were in attendance.)

We need you to check the information that is posted, and send corrections if needed.

We need to know your position aboard ship. Encryption specialist? Chief turboflush technician? Assistant torpedo polisher?

Also, if you have an updated headshot (and weren’t at the banquet), please send it to us so we don’t have so many generic shadows.

Keep in mind, if you haven’t been to a club meeting or activity in over a year, you have been removed from the active-duty roster.  There’s an easy way to fix that – come to an event.

A couple reminders for upcoming activities:

Saturday, March 15 – Munchkin tournament at HaJoMaJe games in Kaysville.

Saturday, March 22, 6 – 10 pm – Star Trek Deckbuilding demo at Starbase 40.

For all my senior staff – Saturday, March 22, 3 – 6 pm – Senior Officers’ meeting at Starbase 40.

Thank you, all, for your contributions. Let’s make 2014 the year the Tico comes soaring back.

*Update* USS Ticonderoga Monthly Meeting and More

MDA_ShamrockGreetings, Crew!  It’s been a wild couple of months, but I think we’re past the uncertainty now.  The meeting tomorrow, March 12, 7 p.m., will be held in the auditorium at the Roy library.  1950 w. 4800 s., Roy Utah.  UTA bus route 640 has a stop just up the street.  Please remember to bring any show-and-tell items that you may have.

Now for the “and more”.  We are in the month of March, and at many stores and restaurants, you will see the MDA shamrocks pictured above.  These are a good way to get service points, if you are in need of some for your next rank advancement.  The green shamrocks are $1.00, the gold shamrocks are $5.00, and you get a service point for each dollar that you spend.  Now for the fine print.  You have to sign the card with “USS Ticonderoga: Star Trek Fan Club”, and you have to put on your duty report the location it is displayed.   This also counts for the similar fundraisers by Children’s Miracle Network and Primary Children’s Center.

Within the Seventh Fleet, 2014 has been dedicated as the Year of Challenges.  Is there some goal that you are working on for this year? It can be something personal; (losing weight, going back to school, starting a business, etc.,) or something to do with fandom; (Gaining a certain rank by the end of the year, reading a set amount of Star Trek books, putting together a scale model of the fleet, etc.)  I, myself, am working toward attaining the rank of full commander* by the end of the year.  Is there a goal you’ve set, that will probably require stepping out of your comfort zones, that you’d like to be supported in attaining?  We’re looking at putting together a “cheer leader” team, for lack of a better description.  We’ll be brainstorming some ideas for that group, along with updating you on all of the upcoming activities.

*As an aside, once I reach that rank and am fully certified by the Seventh Fleet Admiralty Board, we will be able to choose a new ship.  What class would  you like to see become the Ticonderoga-A?  Something to think about.

Hope to see you all there!

Admiral Stark interviewed in Star Magazine

Star_Into_Darkness_Special_CoverWith the new Star Trek: Into Darkness movie coming out soon, several magazines are prepping their upcoming issues to celebrate the event.  Star Magazine reached out to the Seventh Fleet and asked if a representative would be willing to be interviewed.  Admiral Carl Stark was asked to represent the Fleet and an interview was set up.  We have been told that the interview will now be published in the March 27th (Wednesday) publication by Star Magazine.  The Star Into Darkness Special will have 200 photos, special interviews and various Star Trek previews.  Star Magazine sent us a copy of the cover to share with everyone as well.  Let us know what you think of the interview.

Happy New Year 2013

Welcome everyone to the year 2013 (Stardate: 66010.1 in the Seventh Fleet system).  The year of 2012 held many good memories for us.  Star Trek: The Next Generation turned 25 years old (and we are celebrating with the TNG Re-Watch Party that is still going on).  We had the re-integration with Utah’s longest running Science Fiction convention, CONduit with special guest Tim Russ (Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager).  At this convention the USS Ticonderoga won the Room Party Contest.  The release of Star Trek: TNG blu-rays had two theater specials.  The Seventh Fleet held a wonderful Admiral’s Banquet and Seventh Fleet games where we had fun with our Star Trek family.   We started role-playing nights for Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons.  And Star Trek returned locally to our airwaves on KTVX 4.2.

So what are we looking forward to in 2013?  This will be the 15th Anniversary of the founding of the Seventh Fleet.  We had to pull together after our previous parent organization had disbanded. Even today challenges remain and new adventures await us.  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will turn 20 years old in 2013.  Star Trek fan, author and historian, Larry Nemecek, will be attending CONduit 23 as a guest.  And probably the biggest event, the new Star Trek Into Darkness will be released on May 17th.  This will be an opportunity to promote both the movie and the club as well.

So what else will we be doing in 2013?  There are many months that we could fill with many fun club activities.  At the January 9th meeting we will be putting together the 2013 calendar of events.  We need everyone to show up and submit your ideas and feedback on many different events and community service that the club can participate in.  This will be at the Weber County Library-Main Branch (25th and Jefferson in Ogden).  This is your club, what would you like to see it do?
