USS Ticonderoga meeting on October 12

Acting Captain Dave Stock will be conducting the meeting on Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00pm.  This will be held in the basement meeting rooms at the Main Branch of the Weber County Library (25th and Jefferson in Ogden).  Captain Erica Stark will be present but is still on doctor-ordered modified bed rest.  Thus she is currently on a medial leave of absence.  However they would love to see everyone at the meeting since this is one of the few times we can see everyone.

There will be a special report from the lastest adventure of Star Trek: USS Ticonderoga (RPG session).  Plus there will be lots of discussion of the upcoming USS Ticonderoga Halloween party and other upcoming holiday events.

Ticonderoga Activity: USS Kelly 25th Anniversary Party

As many of you know, the USS Kelly was the mothership that launched the chapter-in-training that eventually became the USS Ticonderoga.  September 2011 is the 25th Anniversary of the USS Kelly as a Star Trek fan club.  The USS Kelly has been promoting Star Trek and the values that we try to live up to since 1986.  And they have been doing this without charging any dues during the club’s entire run.  They have no plans to charge dues in the future as well.

The USS Ticonderoga crew wanted to celebrate with our Star Trek family by making the 25th Anniversary party the official monthly activity.  Here is the invitation from the USS Kelly.

Get Ready to come in your Birthday suit

No, not that one, you silly-dilly. Starfleet regulations for modesty still apply. The grand lady known as the USS Kelly has had a birthday, and it’s a big one. Unlike some women who are shy about revealing the number, she’s proud of her age and has earned every one of her years. As of September 1st, the USS Kelly turned 25. That’s right, 25 years. A quarter of a century. Two and a half decades. The big 2-5…

This, my friends, most definitely calls for a party.

What: USS Kelly 25th anniversary party
Where: Captain Thalmann’s inlaw’s house
4170 Long Valley Road (about 6100 W) West Valley City, UT
When: Saturday, Septmber 24th– yes, that’s THIS SATURDAY folks
Time: 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Tentative schedule of activities includes:

2:00 p.m. Meet/Mingle and ‘Polynesian’ Style
4:00 p.m. Stuff ourselves silly/eat during Ship business and entertainment
5:00 P.M. end of activity/cleanup begins (easy service points, anyone?)

**Please Note**

This event will have a Hawaiian-Luau theme, and all who attend are encouraged to dress appropriately. Mark the date on your calendars, save the date, and start collecting party favors. This party is going to be one for the record books.

45th Anniversary of Star Trek

On September 8, 1966 at 8:30pm TV audiences were introduced to Star Trek.  NBC aired the first episode on this date that was titled “The Man Trap.”  Most viewers were watching it on television sets that were only black and white.  Now we can dust off the old VCR tapes, put in the trusty DVD (original or new high-def) and even stream the episodes online through Netflix or from a variety of websites.  This streaming even allows us to watch Star Trek over our smart phones and tablet devices.   In a few more years, who knows what new technology will allow us to enjoy episodes of our favorite Science Fiction series.

So the questions we have today are, what are your favorite memories of the original Star Trek series?  What will you do to celebrate the anniversary?  Let us know by posting in the comments section below.  We would love to hear your ideas.

Reminder to Department Chiefs: Call your people

Captain Erica Stark would like to send out a reminder to the USS Ticonderoga Department Chiefs.  Please call your people about upcoming events and activities.  Currently we need a headcount for the upcoming Seventh Fleet Olympics hosted by the USS Atlantis in southern Idaho on Saturday, August 20th.  We also need to know who needs rides and who can give rides.  We need this by Friday, July 29th.

Crewmembers, if your contact information has changed, please contact your Department Chief or the Ticonderoga’s Executive Officer, Lt. Dave Stock.

USS Ticonderoga Monthly Meeting on July 13

The ever popular USS Ticonderoga monthly meeting is fast approaching on Wednesday, July 13th.  This will be at 7:00pm at our standard location, the Weber County Library at 24th and Jefferson in Ogden.  Captain Stark will have a variety of announcements, awards and promotions to give out.   There will be discussion on conventions and a special announcement from Crewman Ivan Podwys (see the entry below).

And of course, after the meetings we will head to Village Inn on 12th Street for free pie.  Always remember that you can earn extra points for brining a friend to the meeting.  See you then.

2009 Star Trek Merit Sheet now online

The ADVOT/Merit Sheet for the 2009 Star Trek movie has now been posted online.   It can now be found in the Downloads section of the USS Ticonderoga website.  It can also be downloaded directly by clicking on this link here.  Once you have printed out this document you can put in your Star Trek 2009 DVD and answer the questions (they are presented in order as they appear on the film).  If you don’t have the DVD, you can watch it via streaming on Netflix.

Thanks to the various crewmembers who have sent in corrections on other merit sheets we have posted in the download section.  As we get more ADVOTs/Merit Sheets completed, we will post the announcements here.

USS Ticonderoga Fourth of July plans

Greetings, All!
The Fourth of July (The Captain’s favorite holiday) is just around the corner.  As you know, it’s become a tradition in recent years to have a USS Ticonderoga BBQ on that day, and this year is no exception.  Here is the info you will need if you are planning on joining us – and, as always, everyone is welcome.
This year’s barbecue will be held at the home of Lt. Dave Stock in Syracuse, and will start at 7:00 pm.

The ship will be providing:
Drinks
Plates
Cups
Utensils
Condiments

You need to bring:
Meat to grill
A dish to share
Lawn chairs or blankets
Fireworks (if everyone brings a few, we’ll have lots.)
Bug repellent
Lighter

There is a large parking lot across the street from Dave’s house which will be empty by the time we are ready to light fireworks, so we can light all the new aerials that are now allowed in Utah, as well as letting the kids have fun with sparklers, pop-it’s, and other such fun stuff, without worrying what may be getting set on fire.

This area should also give us a nice view of the fireworks displays from both Clearfield and Layton, without the traffic headaches afterward.

If you need the address to Dave’s house, please email Info@USSTiconderoga.org, and we will send it your way.
We hope to see everyone there.  Until then, enjoy the heat!
