Independence Day is on Sunday. This weekend a lot of us will be celebrating the Fourth of July in many different ways. Some of us will be camping, some will be spending time with friends and family. There will be several parades, community events, BBQs and lots of fireworks. There are two things the USS Ticonderoga would like you to keep in mind. 1- Please be safe. We would like to see all of you again in the future at many meetings and activities. 2- Please thank the members and volunteers in our military, local police and emergency services. It is because of them that we can celebrate our independence and freedoms. Thank you for all that you do.
So for the month of July the Acting Captain of the USS Ticonderoga will be Lt. Dave Stock. The Acting Captain program was set up to give Ticonderoga Crewmembers experience in leadership and command. For our activity in July, we will be taking a road trip over the Independence Day weekend. Acting Captain Stock has beachfront property at Bear Lake (with all of the amenities such as fire-pits, plumbing, etc.) and has invited anyone from the Seventh Fleet to join us for camping and relaxing. We haven’t had a USS Ticonderoga campout in about 4-5 years. This beachfront property is the same location that the 2004 Seventh Fleet Olympics was held. We will have fireworks, swimming, group breakfast and a Shisk-ka-Bob BBQ. There is also a 4th of July Parade at a small town nearby and a cave we can visit as well. If you are interested in going, contact the Captain ASAP.
This Saturday, June 26th, the USS Atlantis will be hosting a Welcome to the Seventh Fleet BBQ in Southern Idaho. The USS Atlantis is the latest addition to our Star Trek family. It was just last August that Captain Charles Corr had contacted the Seventh Fleet inquiring about a home for his group. The Atlantis had been around since the late 90’s and survived the breakup of their previous parent organization. The USS Atlantis has made a lot of effort to join the Seventh Fleet by driving down for special events (Admiral’s Banquet and Seventh Fleet Olympics) as well as attending the Fleet Council Meetings. The USS Ticonderoga will be represented by Captain Carl Stark, Executive Officer Lieutenant Erica Stark and Chief Engineer Lt. (j.g.) John Barnes at the welcoming ceremony. We are looking forward to exciting adventures with our new friends from Idaho. Welcome aboard.
Today is the date for the Primary Elections in the United States. We would like to encourage you to go out and vote for the candidates you feel will do the best job for your country and community.
We would like to thank all of the fathers out there who have inspired us, stood by us and remained a part of our lives even to this day. Happy Father’s Day.
Friends and family of the USS Ticonderoga will be getting together on Saturday, June 19th. We will be meeting at Noon at Island View Park in Clearfield (address: 1800 South Main St). Bring your own lunch for you and your family. When we are done eating we will be holding a practice for the upcoming Seventh Fleet Olympics. There is a playground next to the pavilion for the kids to play at while we are eating and having fun. This event is open to anyone so feel free to bring your friends.
Our friends from the USS Rendezvous hosted a Star Party/Rocket Launch Campout in Trenton, Utah last weekend. Those who attended had a blast despite the overcast clouds shortening the astronomy. We had attendees from the USS Kelly, USS Rendezvous, USS Ticonderoga and USS Ursa Major. Unfortunately the party from the USS Retributor had run into car problems and couldn’t make it.
Besides the astronomy there were several other events that we participated in. Some command training was provided. The Rendezvous was able to demonstrate the new Seventh Fleet Science Academy. With the number of shops in the area, several supply runs were made. The kids had a blast playing with the different animals on the farm. The group participated in a D6 Star Wars Role Playing session. And one of the major highlights of the day was the Dutch Oven Ribs for dinner.
The primary goal of the campout was to get as many people to relax as possible. Thanks to the efforts of Captain Trowbridge and her crew, I feel that this goal was accomplished. Thanks guys, we are looking forward to the next campout.
Here is a note from the Executive Officer about the June USS Ticonderoga meeting:
Many thanks to those of you who braved the rain to join us at our little picnic. We had fun, and lots of kids got wet. =)
To those of you who participated in the Ticonderoga RPG run for us by the USS Retributor, please send me your mission logs. (If you played one of the pre-made characters and can’t recall your character’s name, son;t worry about it.) Tell me what you did, and please indicate where you left off. =) I intend to compile all of them and we will use them to bring everyone up to speed when we have our next game session. I don’t know yet when that will be. As soon as it can be coordinated, I will let you all know. =)
Many thanks also to Capt. Rex Rouviere and the crew of the Retributor for running the game, and playing with us. =)

X.O., U.S.S. Ticonderoga
Additional notes: Congratulations go out to Lt. (j.g.) Tim Madden for being named June Crewmember of the Month. Tim has worked hard for several years on the USS Ticonderoga website and will be missed when he moves his family to Nebraska this summer. Also we had orders given out to a new crewmember, a recruit returned for her second meeting (and will receive her orders next month). We also had a new recruit show up to check us out (he was brought by a friend who will earn 10 Leadership Points for him when he receives his orders) . I also wanted to welcome the crewmembers who had not been to to a meeting in years. It was good to see you.
Captain Carl Stark
This Wednesday, June 9th, we will be holding our next USS Ticonderoga monthly meeting. We always hold our regular monthly meeting on the Second Wednesday of the month. Normally we would be meeting at the Weber County Library-Main Branch on 25th and Jefferson in Ogden. However with the nice weather upon us we decided to hold the meeting at Lester Park right next to the library. Instead of meeting at 7:00pm we will be meeting at 6:30pm at the pavilion next to the playground. The kids can run and play while we eat (bring your own dinner) and hold the meeting. At the meeting we give out orders, commendations and rank advancements. The group also discusses upcoming events and participates in the planning for the club. We also have a special event planned at this meeting. Bring a friend and come by to have fun.
We are still trying to get the new site up to 100% completed (at least for the launch) but we will also be making regular updates as well. As some of these updates are completed we will post about it on the official blog.
Let us know if you have any feedback on the new USS Ticonderoga website.
