Posted here are copies of different news articles that the USS Ticonderoga and the Seventh Fleet have been presented in.
The Salt Lake Tribune had an article in 2000 for a Star Trek convention called Fan Fest 2000. George Takei was the primary guest of honor at this convention that was held at the Utah State Fairgrounds. The USS Ticonderoga participated with several Seventh Fleet members at this convention. Captain Marla Trowbridge of the USS Rendezvous introduce George Takei to the attendees at the convention. The Ticonderoga is not mentioned in this article but Ticonderoga crewmember Frank Buck is seen in the photo with George Takei. |
In 2001 the USS Ticonderoga celebrated her fifth anniversary. An IDIC Banquet was held with dishes prepared from different races seen on Star Trek and guests dressed up in several different costumes. Friends from the Seventh Fleet and Utah Fandom were in attendance at an Ogden location. The Standard Examiner (a local daily newspaper) sent a reports to cover the event. There was a front page article on the Top of Utah section and a teaser on the front page of the Sunday paper. |
Members of the USS Kelly were interviewed by the Salt Lake Tribune for an article on groups using the Adopt-A-Highway system to promote themselves. The Kelly members had mentioned the USS Ticonderoga in the article. |
The Davis County Clipper published a letter from the USS Ticonderoga CMO, Lieutenant Karrie Buck. Here is a copy of that article. |
The USS Ticonderoga and Captain Carl Stark participated with The Enterprise
Project. In the spirit of Bjo Trimble and the letter writing campaign that saved Star Trek in the 1960′s, The Enterprise Project spearheaded the efforts of Star Trek fans in support of Star Trek Enterprise. This open letter to Dawn Ostroff and Les Moonves appeared in the Hollywood Reporter in February 2003. The USS Ticonderoga was the only “starship” to appear on the list. |
The Enterprise Project once again sent out the call for donations and support for another Hollywood Reporter ad. The goal for this ad was to show that the fans were eager for season four (which was about to start) and more. This time the USS Ticonderoga was joined by our USS Pioneer friends from Denver on the list of “starships”. There is a third part to this series but we’ve got to find it and get it uploaded. |
In May 2005, science fiction author Orson Scott Card had published an opinion piece slamming Star Trek and its fans. A local paper had published the opinion piece and several Star Trek fans had responded with letters to the editor. Two USS Ticonderoga members had their letters published as well.

With the 40th anniversary of Star Trek approaching in 2006, the Ogden Standard Examiner asked the USS Ticonderoga for an interview. One of the most exciting parts was heading down to the newspaper offices for the photo shoot. This article brought in a few new Ticonderoga crewmembers. |
Mountain-Con IV was held in Layton, Utah in 2008. There were several guests from Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars and more. The Ogden Standard Examiner had an article covering the event. Lieutenant Dave Stock was quoted in the article.

The Ogden Standard Examiner had a series of articles promoting the release of the 2009 Star Trek movie. The first article profiled how the release of the movie and the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire was an opportunity for fans to take two different treks. Captain Carl Stark was interviewed for this article. |
The second article that the Ogden Standard Examiner published for the release of the 2009 Star Trek movie was a short piece asking fans where they would want to travel if they could go to any point in time (the past or the future). Captain Carl Stark gave two different points in time he would like to visit. |
The third article (the fourth was a review of the movie that did not mention the USS Ticonderoga) from the Ogden Standard Examiner introduced the readers to the Romulans, Vulcans and Klingons. Captain Carl Stark was quoted in this article and details about how to meet up with the USS Ticonderoga were listed. |
The last article in the Ogden Standard Examiner special covered the fans who attended the premier of Star Trek on Thursday, May 7th. Lt. (j.g.) John Barnes and Crewman Jerry Girado were featured in the photo with the article. |
